Victory Sour Monkey

The Sour Monkey by Victory Brewing Company is a twist on their Golden Monkey Belgian Tripel.  We tasted this beer on Episode 16.  It adds a tartness to the beer that provides a refreshing contrast from the complex fruit and spicy flavors of the Tripel.  Mostly citrus sourness, particularly lemon, comes with this beer that has a medium-heavy mouthfeel.  With a whopping 9.5% ABV, as the base beer is a Tripel, this has the flavor of a much lighter beer, given it's golden color being a bit deceiving.  While being plenty tart, it sports a balanced, malty finish.  With Tettnang hops and some Brettanomyces yeast, this makes for a great beer to pick up in a six-pack of bottles.  Being on a sour kick lately on the podcast, this was a nice addition that everyone really enjoyed, even Dylan!  Both Scott and Nick said they would drink a full bottle/glass of this without getting that candy coating like on the Kriek from the previous episode.  Joel loved it, as he loves almost all sours, especially Belgian versions.
