Brooklyn Local 1

The Brooklyn Local 1 is a Belgian Golden Strong Ale.  We tasted this beer on Episode 13, where you can hear our live thoughts and impressions.  The first pour provided a glorious white head that filled the entire glass, which can be seen from the residue in the picture to the left.  It should be mentioned that this should be poured in a special tulip glass instead of a pint glass, which would make the head less drastic but more full.  When the head started to fade, the beautiful deep yellow of this beer began to emerge.  It has little hop flavor or aroma, and yields a 9% ABV.  As the first sip entered my mouth, the explosion of fruity esters and spicy phenols, combined with the malty mouthfeel, made for an excellent flavor.  This is a unique example but also has the characteristics of exactly what you expect from this style of beer, which helps add to this being a fantastic example.  The iconic example of this beer is Duvel from the Duvel Moortgaat brewery in Belgium.
